Connect, Grow, Serve, & Reach.
These four words sum up the vision of how we do ministry here. We strive to create an environment within all our ministries where people will be able to: Connect with God and each other. Grow in faith and character. Serve God and one another. Reach out with Christ’s love.
God created and rules all in love. He always existed. The Father, the Son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit are three persons, co-equal in one God.
We are made in God’s image. People are central in His creation. Created with free will, we have potential for good works but are bent by self-rule and an attitude of disobedience towards God. This attitude separates all people from God, yet God wants to have a relationship with us.
Lovingly, God did all the work to make a relationship with Him possible. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, the exact representation of Himself. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people. Christ physically rose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. Because He walked this earth as we do, He understands our struggles and responds to our needs.
We can never make up for sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by personally trusting in Jesus Christ and God’s offer of forgiveness, can we be saved from permanent separation from God. Just as relationship is received, it is kept by the grace and power of God, not by the self effort of the Christian. Once established, the relationship with God is permanent.
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son, as God. Sent by God to live in every Christian, the Holy Spirit guides us in doing what is right and teaches spiritual truth. The Holy Spirit empowers believers with the unique abilities to serve and build up the body of Christ, the Church. Community As believers we are not on our own anymore. We are bound together in His body the church. Each of us finds our meaning and function as part of His believing community. The church is designed to function by honoring God through worship, fellowship, encouraging one another to grow spiritually, meeting needs and spreading the good news of Jesus Christ.
The Bible is God’s love letter to all people. Written by human authors under supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit, it is the ultimate authority for Christian beliefs and Christian living. Though truth may be found in other places, only the Bible can be trusted for complete accuracy.
We expect the bodily return of Jesus Christ. He will establish His Kingdom on earth, ruling over all humanity. Eventually God will judge all who have lived. Those who have a relationship through faith in the Lord Jesus will spend eternity with God. All others will spend eternity separated from Him.
Bayside Woodland, based in evangelical Christianity, began as “The Gathering” in 2003, originally meeting in the homes of members. Under the leadership of founding pastor, John Withem, The Gathering grew and eventually entered into an agreement with the Woodland school district to rent Pioneer High School, where we meet today. In 2006, The Gathering made a strategic choice to join the Bayside Family of Churches and changed our name to Bayside Church of Woodland. This partnership affiliated us with 10 Bayside Churches in the greater Sacramento region. Although the closeness of this affiliation has loosened over the years, the Bayside churches continue to partner from time to time in mission, giving and other strategic endeavors. The legacy of Bayside Woodland is directly connected to the vision and passion of founding pastor, John Withem. In February 2012, John was diagnosed with Stage 4 liver cancer and after a courageous and well-fought battle he went home to be with his Savior in November 2012. In January of 2014 we welcomed our new lead pastor, Cory Johnson and his family to Bayside. Cory has a passion for both reaching the lost and making disciples of those who are in Christ. Under his leadership, Bayside Woodland is heading into a healthy and thriving new season of ministry. We’re excited to see what God has in store for us.
